Four GIZ programmes; Pro-Poor Growth and Promotion of Employment in Nigeria – SEDIN, Skills Development for Youth Employment – SKYE, the Global Programme Migration for Development (PME), and the Green Innovation Centres for Agriculture and Foods (GIAE); under the Sustainable Economic Development Cluster (SEDEC), met representatives of the Edo State Government on 30 January 2020 in Abuja to draw up a draft work plan on the promotion of entrepreneurship and employment promotion for the year 2020.

The group met as a follow up discussion between GIZ and the Edo State Government in October 2019 on areas of mutual interventions and alignment of synergies to promote youth employment and economic growth of the state.

The one-day workshop which was held at the Edo State Liaison Office in Abuja, was attended by the Hon. Commissioner of the Edo State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Princess Otse Momoh Omorogbe, and the Hon. Commissioner of the Edo State Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues, Mrs Maria Edeko amongst others. During the workshop, experts from GIZ and the Edo State Government discussed within working groups on potential strategic activities that aim at business development, technical and vocational education, local economic development, job promotion, entrepreneurship, and policies that affect them.

The outcomes of the working groups were documented in a report that will be further discussed between the two parties and will serve as an attachment for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that is expected to be signed by his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and the GIZ Country Director, Ina Hommers.
